Namine

In the middle of the night, I was woken up by my older sister, Kairi, gently shaking me and whispering, "Namine. Wake up. Come on."

Sitting up, I asked sleepily, "Is something wrong?"

"You have to go...quick..." I wasn't sure what she meant so I stayed quiet and waited for her to explain.

"You're going away to a Princess Academy. It's not safe anymore around here...It's for the best."

"What?! No! What about you?"

"I have to stay here. I'm the queen. I can't leave the people that are left alone." She gently caressed my cheeks and said, "You need to be safe, so you can help our kingdom when it's time again."

I felt tears scroll down my face but nodded silently. She bit her lips as she always did when she was trying to pretend she was strong before saying, “I prepared some clothes for you.”

I looked at where she was pointing and saw that the room was a mess. It was evident she looked through all of our clothes for something suitable…and In a way she did. I changed into the clothes she had prepared for me and checked myself in the mirror. I looked so much like little red riding hood in a red cape and a silky soft white blouse, black wrap and short-ish white skirt. Instead of the heeled shoes, I had a furry pair of shoes that were soft on the feet and warm.

My sister gave me one last hug before going over to the window and sitting there tearing up silently. I took a last look at the portrait of our older sister, the previous queen, hanging on the wall. And then at the pictures of our parents in a small frame. Heaving a deep sigh, I whispered, “Good luck” and sneaked outside and towards the destiny.
